The concept of aging is a reoccurring theme in my work. As a safe haven for seniors who wish to live to the fullest until their final days, Golden Milonga embodies my ideal of growing old. The school of tango, popular amongst Warsaw’s senior community, brings back light into the lives of those for whom it has been gradually fizzling out. It stands in stark contrast to commonly held assumptions about the place that older people should occupy in society. By choosing dance and human connection over the passive acceptance of old age, its participants silently defy public expectations of them. Their relentless appetite for life and love is why I chose them as the subject of my work. Their modus operandi is a source of inspiration for me both on an aesthetic and personal level.
