Probably the most personal piece of work I have done. I wanted to shoot an abstract feeling, a fleeting sensation. Something that I felt at the back of my head, too far away to see it. The film follows a woman’s stream of consciousness as she remembers her childhood memories and wonders about her future. Based on a loose narrative of one potential date, the film explores themes of humanity in a modern capitalistic society. As serious as that sounds, I felt there’s something interesting in capturing this topic with computer game aesthetics shown through live action but also with Sims 1 screen recordings. Sims 1 was released two years later and became an instant hit. The perfect life simulator where everyone can build their own house and water their roses while watching romantic sunsets. It’s a reflection of my own life too as I watch my friends settle down, have kids and become grown-ups.
