Filmmaker Statement

MONO is a short film based on the idea of individuals challenged by a 'monotonous' and 'monochromatic' lifestyle. My animation serves as a reflective and motivational video to overcome hardships in modern urban life by teaching others they can gradually find value in little things - hobbies, connecting with others, etc and that improving your lifestyle is a normal part of growth. From an eye-catching title screen, immersive effects, original graphics, relatable characters and melodious soundtrack, MONO is stylised like a role-playing game (RPG) and adopts retro video game graphics to effectively narrate this conceptual idea. Another significant aspect is the title MONO:The prefix mono recurs as the name of the isolated protagonist in my animated short film, in the challenging experience of a monotonous and monochromatic lifestyle, and in the reflective monologue about the protagonist discovering happiness and meaning in life.
