Filmmaker Statement

"MOTHERHOOD is an afterthought on parenthood. Doubts about children are not an easy topic, as the heated discussion fueled by Orna Donath’s publication Regretting Motherhood in 2015 has shown. But it’s a topic which needs to exist in public and that is why I wrote this story.” - Edna Luise Biesold (Writer/Producer/DP) “Directing MOTHERHOOD, a story where subtext rules over exposition, became about trying to elicit a sensitive and nuanced portrait of a woman imploding within the life that she has built for herself. Figuring out how to guide that performance and how to use the camera to best capture her at her strongest and weakest moments was the joy of collaborating on this project.” -David Tyson Lam (Director)
