Filmmaker Statement

I started writing this film in mid 2022 after our cinematographer, Nkosi Roma, handed me the idea of a writer in a cabin alone with an A.I. machine. We wanted to make a film that focused primarily on the how interactive A.I. can impact the creative journey. I dabbled in Midjourney, a text to image generator and an early version of OpenAI as well and I started to get a feeling of how this might impact my own writing in the near future. My hope is that this films asks the basic question: how do creatives come to terms with a machine that can outpace them? We shot on 16mm film to help give the story a retro feel as well as some dissonance to the current A.I. programs and to help focus the story on our character and her reckoning with this machine. We shot every last foot of film we had and actually ran out during our very last shot, at the 4:05 mark you can notice the shot kind of freaks out, that was out last foot of film and we got just barely enough to make the scene comprehendible.
