Filmmaker Statement

I believe that creation is the closest humans can come to being like God. I strongly agree with Hegel’s core idea in Lectures on Aesthetics, that “art is the sensuous presentation of the Idea.” In other words, art reveals the essence of things beyond their utility. The forest doesn’t exist simply to be harvested for wood, it can be transformed through art into something metaphorical and spiritual, helping us understand ourselves and philosophy. This is my faith in creation. My thesis film, Not Alone, incorporates my own experiences, what it conveys is not a literal event, but feelings. Therefore, the audience is invited to follow the atmosphere to feel the work, rather than fully understand what exactly happens. In this film, I have begun to uncover deeper layers of myself, about grief, perception, reconciliation, and survival. Observing how people respond to the film has also become a part of the art.
