Filmmaker Statement

"On the Other Side of the Moon" is based on my own life experiences with friendships and relationships and bonds both implied and concrete. At the center of the story is the ambiguous bond between Christopher (Amara James Aja) and Devon (Warren Jefferson). It took 2 years to finalize the script for this film which consisted of constant dialogue experimentation; balancing plot while leaving enough space to invite the audience's own personal experiences into the storytelling. By taking a slice out of these characters lives and magnifying it through each artistic choice, I wanted the film to hold a mirror to the viewer to allow them to explore the ambiguities in their own relationships, times where they never received closure. I wanted to examine the resulting internal battle between holding on to sentimentality and suffering the pain of moving forward. As a result, Christopher and Devon come to represent two parts of a whole person rather than two arguing friends.
