Peter and I had been at a film festival where a film regarding mental health screened. The film poised an outdoor, recreational pursuit as a solve for the mental health issues this individual was dealing with. After the screening, Peter had explained to me how that wasn't a sustainable way for him to deal with the addiction issues he had faced. From this conversation, the idea of the film came into my mind, but it felt a bit uncomfortable to ask a close friend to make a film on what is likely the most traumatic period of his life. A month or so later, on a bike ride, the topic got brought up again and very naturally flowed into the idea of making this film. The goal with this piece was not to make a cycling film. The cycling would be a visual way to deliver the message that you can't replace one vice with another, cause when that goes away, where are you left?
