Pulsar doesn't stray too far from the truth from some experiences I had growing up in Hobart, Tasmania in the early 2000's. I spent many of my holidays at a close friends house in Primrose Sands where Pulsar is set. Its a rural town with one small shop, a skate ramp and no public transport. The only way out is by car and even then its a 45 minute drive to the city. With this film I wanted to explore acceptance. Looking back on my own life, there was a time when I would do almost anything to be accepted by my peers, or seen as cool and I think this mentality is particularly prevalent in young males in the 14 -18 year old age bracket in Australia. I wanted to tell a uniquely Tasmanian coming of age story that represents a small chunk of my generation.
