Filmmaker Statement

The bond of family is one we all know, by blood or community, but when choices cause friction, the loss of such an intense bond can cause great distance. What does it take to bridge the gap formed, to heal the wound? What resolution is needed to discover, or rediscover, what is really important? QUEENS explores what it feels like to take that step; what it means to express love, and how it feels to receive it too. The drag community champions creativity, acceptance and self-expression. We live in a time when men, perhaps, struggle to express themselves and indeed often don’t. It felt important, therefore, to make a film about one man learning from a community that does.
