Raphael Briscoe was shot in the back by a police “jump-out” squad without even being suspected of a crime. Jump out squads are part of special unit forces’ tactics aimed primarily at policing poor black neighborhoods. Police said Raphael Briscoe was carrying a BB gun, which was found on the site of the crime. There were no fingerprints on the gun. It took four years and a lawsuit by the ACLU before surveillance video of the incident would materialize. Our film takes place in the aftermath of BLM and the self-reflective, depressive state of Raphael’s brother, Rico Sanche, as he contemplates the tragedy death and summons the will to live.
