Filmmaker Statement

After making my first short horror "Unseeing Evil" with a paid crew and hired equipment, I started investing in my own equipment and editing tools. Refracted is the first film I made with my own and equipment and also edited and colour graded myself. I wanted to do a slightly longer short than my first, from a development perspective of writing a longer short and physically making a longer one. This film was actually heavily influenced in the development of it by The Shining which was super fun digging into that film from its story and cinematic mechanisms for the purposes of evolving elements of my film. The original concept was something that had popped into my head from an old memory of mine when I was in quite a bad a place myself. I also decided with this film to launch it straight online as I'm still learning and wanted to get eyes on it and feedback on it rather than locking it away trying for festivals for a year.
