Filmmaker Statement

Director’s Statement by Nathan Hewitt "reTribution" is a highly personal film for me. I wanted to explore a dysfunctional family of siblings from rough circumstances whose greed and personal vendettas puts one of them at risk, and their fight to make it out alive when forces come into play that they didn't expect. I grew up running around very rough, low income parts of Omaha, and this definitely influenced the overall gritty aesthetic of "reTribution." We shot this story on 35 mm film primarily for this reason. Years ago, I had a number of jarring experiences with a cult-like group using emotional shock as a control tactic. One of my brothers also became involved, and, while I can't get into specifics, I still carry trauma with me from that time. Aspects of the piece are influenced by those events, and some characters are loosely based on real people from my life. With "reTribution", we tried to push the boundaries of the action-thriller genre and I hope you enjoy! Sincerely, -N
