Filmmaker Statement

Guns are a challenging topic for us liberal pacifists. We tend to shy away from subject matters, that are commonly associated with the type of people we want to distance ourselves from. That's natural, but it also leads to deepening social divides and misleading negative stereotyping – on all sides. I'm not a gun owner, nor do I intend to become one. I pride myself in being an informed citizen that can serve to strengthen democracy and the increasingly fragile fabric of society. I for one didn't fully grasp the extent to which the vast majority of hunters are nature lovers, deeply invested in animal welfare. The ongoing war in Ukraine has also demonstrated, that liberal values unfortunately still have to be defended by taking up arms.
