Filmmaker Statement

Scarlet is about embracing the gothic - an aesthetic and genre woefully underrepresented in shorts. The film embraces this sense of being an "other" - apply that how you will; being a minority ethnicity, a woman, or LGBTQ. We set out to use the works of Carravagio as a visual inspiration and worked with a lot of up and coming cast and crew to make this a reality. All our costumes were made specifically for the film - stretching the possibilities of a "no budget" production.
