When KillerStar approached me about making a music video for Should've Known Better, I was on the tail end of a lot of commercial work that left me wanting to push the boundaries of my creativity. We had a very limited budget but the aim was to make a video that still felt fun and could take you on an adventure with our protagonists, blurring the line between music video and short film. The band features many of David Bowie's common collaborators so sci-fi felt like a natural through line from Ziggy himself. From building the spaceship set in a garage to handcrafting costumes for each character, love has been sewn into every second of the video, which hopefully comes across in the final product. It's an expression of my adoration for 50s B-movies but also for the kickass kid protagonists of 80s Hollywood and an ode to when music videos were allowed to think outside the box and had the money to do so. We may not have had the money but we did have a whole lotta heart.
