Filmmaker Statement

With this short, the intention was to present a meditation on distance and loneliness by showing the characters’ world as they would see it - essentially, empty. Although the film was made before the Covid-19 pandemic began, the film captures some of the imagery that we have all now become familiar with - a home, experienced in the most personal way possible - alone. We used super large format photography to capture the motion “within” the stillness of a deserted home - helping blur the line between the stark, yet hazy and dream like visuals of Chris Marker’s “La Jeteé” and the brooding landscapes of Tarkovski and Lynch. Great care was taken to direct the actors’ voice recordings to be as naturalistic as possible whilst adhering to the script. The result, we feel is of an acquired taste - but powerful and subtle in equal measure.
