Filmmaker Statement

Split Sole is a short, forbidden and unexpected love story. At its heart this film is about two people coming together to express themselves and their feelings in a way that feels right for them. Lewis and Zach are two young men from working class London. They have been raised to live, love and act a certain way, and homosexuality is far from being accepted in their worlds filled with toxic masculinity. Through finding each other, they have found a way to let their guard down and expose their true selves in a genuine and heartfelt way. The reason we made this film is to shine a light on a culture and part of the world that is still unwelcoming to LGBT lifestyles, despite existing in a first world capital city. For some, being yourself still remains a dangerous and secretive thing.
