Filmmaker Statement

This film has been a labour of love for me. It’s a farewell letter to a city where I spent most of my adult life. The story I’m sharing in this film was overheard during one of my many meandering weekend walks along the small streets and quaint lanes in the older parts of Shanghai. I decided to ground this story in a tiny, traditional, noodle shop. These noodle shops are an inextricable part of the neighbourhoods and communities they serve. Our tale’s little eatery, with its kind and generous proprietor, is the “strand” that unites the households and denizens of this small corner of Shanghai through the stories that happened here, is happening here, and will happen here. I hope you enjoy watching “STRANDS OF LOVE” as much as I did making it.
