Sunset Country is a slow and meditative reflection on the complexity of old age, loss and grief - the film provides dual perspectives on the effects that old age has introspectively on individuals and more broadly the effects it has on our collective society. Ray’s character works to redefine stereotypes of dying from old age. It also aims to embed the audience in Jean’s point of view, and seeks to ask the complicated question: when someone we love is in pain, can death be a relief?
