Filmmaker Statement

I’d come out as gay within my long-term marriage only 18 months prior to shooting. I could easily see that this film project had the potential to enlighten and inform. Life for family can never be the same again once a person comes out to their spouse, kids and other loved ones. The ripple effect is enormous and there is a grieving process for all. There can be sadness, anger, confusion, denial, resentment, frustration but, hopefully, a point of acceptance when the time is right. Emotions run high and since this piece was to be improvised, I knew there would be the opportunity for the two central characters to express those emotions in true, raw and authentic ways. In so doing, I hope the film assists others with families who have come out late in life, to realize we are not alone as we work through the issues. I hope the broader community gain some insights into some of the challenges we, along with our families, face too. - Actor John McCullough
