Filmmaker Statement

Chances are, you’ve had a friend from high school or an acquaintance suddenly start a business selling cosmetics, essential oils, or wellness supplements. Maybe they’ve hit you with the “Hi hun!” over social media and try to lure you in by promises of working from home, setting your own schedule and making lots of money easily. If you have, you know someone in a multi-level marketing scheme. These businesses are the embodiment of "girl-boss feminism" and showcase how corporations co-opt cultural and social challenges to meet their financial goals. And that’s what my short film, THE DOWNLINE, is about. This satirical thriller is about a woman who has fought her way to the top of the pyramid, only to be at the risk of losing it all (and her mind) when a member of her downline commits suicide.
