Filmmaker Statement

In 'The Eucharist,' I aimed to use the striking landscape of Nida, Lithuania, to tell a horror story about a man stranded on an island. While the narrative is centered around survival, at its core, it explores the challenge of resisting temptation. I am intrigued by Thomas Aquinas' ideas about appetites, and I aspired to delve into those concepts through the character's struggles. Simonas, portrayed by the renowned Lithuanian director Emilis VÄ—lyvis, grapples with giving in to his natural appetites, depicted through hunger and lust. The story unfolds as he follows his base instincts, rejecting rational will and divine guidance, leading to destructive consequences and terrible acts. This film aims to examine human vulnerability and the conflict between instinct and reason while also, hopefully, providing the audience with some good scares, gore, and eerie atmosphere.
