Filmmaker Statement

Is your life worth less just because you have less of it to live? That was the question we set out to pose when making The Exit Plan. Labeling it 'near-future Sci-Fi', wanting to suggest the world in this film could be a reality not far from now, we never expected, only months after we shot the film, the world be thrust into a pandemic that adversely affected the Elderly. Suddenly our little film felt strangely prescient. Set in a future where the Government has chosen to prioritize one life over another, the youth are taught to believe that the elderly are dispensable. It is a story that is horrifying precisely because our young protagonist doesn't think that it is. He has lost his compass for humanity even though his demeanor is still polite. By making our young protagonist a mere pencil pusher and moving away from the more common violent dystopian film genre, like Blade Runner, we aim to focus on the humanist connections and the horror in the normality of enacting the policy.
