Filmmaker Statement

With her athletic physique, naturally raspy voice, and androgynous fashion sense, Keagan Anfuso is often mistakenly perceived as male or male-identified. However, neither assumption is true. Contrary to assumptions, Anfuso has always comfortably identified as female and uses she/her pronouns. Since childhood, Anfuso has faced the challenge of having her gender identity misunderstood, particularly in convincing others of her comfort within her female identity. Recognizing the profound capability of film as a medium to depict marginalized experiences that are often challenging to convey, Keagan joins forces with other voices to reveal the restrictive and harmful effects of outdated binary stereotypes throughout one's life, from childhood to adulthood.
