Filmmaker Statement

The Hereafter is a dark satire about our current age of capitalist exploitation. It's about Big Money's unfortunate knack of prioritizing profit over the financial/mental well being of their consumers and clients. The film tells the story of a Selfie Casket -- a product that allows the dead to keep posting to their social medias in the afterlife. The ongoing strikes in the entertainment industry is a perfect example of what this film is attempting to satirize and comment on. Studios want to profit off the image of any face that makes them a quick buck with such blind avarice that it feels like even the idea of "Resting in Peace" is too hard for them to respect and abide by. The film is supposed to promote the idea of self agency -- of reclaiming your autonomy in an age where it feels as if those in power want to strip it away.
