In May of 2022, I had the opportunity, as a producer, to bring Jenn Harris’ award winning short She’s Clean to The Short Film Corner at Cannes. It was an exciting time, and a life changing experience to be there. The legendary festival was finally back open for the in-person experience, after being virtual the year before due to the pandemic. Our first public screening being in Cannes led to an 18 month global festival circuit run that had our short in many Academy Award qualifying festivals from Estonia (PÖFF) to Orlando’s Florida Film Festival. Safe to say we ran the gamut and closed our festival run at the world renowned TallGrass Film Festival in Wichita, KS. I saw over 400 short films and began to think about what I would want to direct, what I would want to say, as a filmmaker. I’ve thought about the films that have stayed with me, and why.
