Filmmaker Statement

The fictional kingdom (Schlaraffia) that the film gives access to has existed for over 160 years and serves the same purpose now as it did then; to be a refuge from the outside world and the divisive climate that dominates it. Our clothes, gestures, discussions and even names transmit information that is analyzed, interpreted and acted upon by others constantly. Schlaraffians aim to free themselves from such signifiers and to unite through their commonalities; not by hand picking their members, but by purposefully creating commonalities that anyone can share. The film should be what Schlaraffia is for its members, a safe haven from the profane world as well as a reminder that, in our final hour, none of us should come to realize that we have not spent our time on what really matters in life: friendship, art and humor.
