I never expected to have a shoplifting phase. But... in college, I did. It started with me and my friends getting stoned in the woods and raiding the campus convenient stores for candy. As I got older, my thievery-escapades became a little more high-stakes, and I became interested in the inner-world of stealing. I would have fantasies as I was riding the escalator down, completely alone, stolen sunglasses perched on my head, gliding through the automatic glass doors surrounded by security sensors. The Package Thief is an exploration of that. It's also an exploration of escapism, and the tactics I used to distract myself from the big decisions of post-college life. Let it be known: I NEVER STOLE A PACKAGE. But I did have a box of contact lenses stolen from my porch my senior year. And that's where the idea was born. The Package Thief is about loneliness and the moment before clarity, embellished with the magical details of an overactive imagination. PS: I no longer identify as a thief.
