Filmmaker Statement

Youth, the big intersection of life, is where we all find ourselves at the threshold of great expectations. Identity, duty, personal longing - a young person feels forced to give an answer, at a point where both her inner world and the outer world are new and overwhelming. From this center of energy came our tale of change. Despite the dense amount of information and a modern treatment, the film’s intention is to create the lyricism of a ballet. The storytelling itself is stylized, applying a distinctly melodramatic handling within a classical three-act structure. Movement and music accompanied each other, while a lot of language is borrowed from stage sensibilities, especially in act two. Characters are made and made to move with theatricality and dance, transforming before the eyes in an ever-evolving gestural performance. Pure pigments suspended in time and space only by the grain of the paper, the film is a love letter to the medium of traditional animation, a journey of finding.
