Filmmaker Statement

This story explores the all-too-common micro aggressions and gaslighting behaviours that many women experience. As well as the unpaid, domestic labour women often find themselves forced into performing when living in heterosexual relationships with cis-men. Additionally, the story touches on the unwanted sexual advances women are often forced to navigate while in isolating or compromising situations - often from men they trust - and the aftermath of being disbelieved when things become public. The Testosterone Club is my graduate film. It is my debut short and was created with my best mate and DP, Monica-Jane Saade (MJ). The experiences that Monica, the films protagonist, navigates are all too familiar amongst many women and AFAB folks. My aim in making this film was to call out these sexist and misogynistic behaviours and empower women to break free of their socially conditioned programming and reclaim their independence.
