I want to tell stories that are significant to me. Stories that put women and people of colour at their forefront. I am extremely grateful that for my directorial debut I was able to do all of these things. As a woman I feel constantly watched. When walking through the city to a lecture, when out with my friends, even when I am alone in my flat, I feel like I am always being observed and analysed by typically male eyes. To be continuously leered at is extremely disturbing and uncomfortable, and I know that this is a feeling shared by all women. When making The Trial I wanted to portray this feeling and convey how disorienting it is to see eyes staring at you wherever you turn. Creating a psychological horror felt like the most powerful way to do this. The filmmaking process was so freeing. It's taught me so much about directing and what kind of director I want to be. The crew were incredible, and their hard work and dedication is evident in the film. I couldn't be more proud.
