I created this film to capture the way calligraphy can embody more than skill or decoration. Through the life and practice of calligrapher Taku Kosugi, I wanted to reveal how words, when written with sincerity, become vessels for emotions that often remain unspoken. His encounter with the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake transformed his perspective on art and gave his calligraphy a profound depth. For me, documentary filmmaking is about observing and honoring authenticity. By following Kosugi’s daily life and creative process, I sought to share the quiet intensity of his gaze and the humility with which he approaches his art. I believe his story speaks not only to Japanese culture but to a universal need to find meaning and beauty in the simplest acts of expression.
