Filmmaker Statement

The Wizard’s Hat is a labor of love and a homage to the golden era of animation, with an aesthetic inspired by old school Disney and Don Bluth films of the 20th century. We wanted to make a film with all of the bits we love- magic, action, and silliness. We also wanted to tell a story about a nontraditional character- a goofy female hat who wants to master the magical arts. We had big dreams, but as creators we knew how extremely hard it is to get a project funded. We explored alternative financing pathways for the film by approaching the highly esteemed NFT community, Nouns DAO. Nouns the brand is funded by selling 1 NFT per day at auction, and those funds to support a wide range of projects including art, public goods and charity, technical infrastructure and more. We proposed to Nouns that we’d make a short film about the origin story of one of the Nouns characters. We were given a grant from Nouns, along with complete creative control to bring this character and her world to life.
