Filmmaker Statement

The motif of this film comes from the Portrait of Elena Carafa by Edgar Degas. What fascinated me in it was not the background story of the work, in which the artist came to the funeral of a relative and engraved this lady on the canvas. I was captivated by the sad restless look of the female protagonist, the cold colour tones and mixed feelings that this combination evoked. My goal was to transmit Elena Carafa's cold tranquility through moving images.
