Filmmaker Statement

I wrote the script at a time when I became very fascinated by instances where people had done quite extreme and bizarre things to reach any semblance of fame or attention, even if only nominal. I saw a lot of comedic potential in the pitfalls of this desire and started thinking about ways that I could tell a compelling story that would really portray the absurdity of the quest for 15 minutes of fame, while also being rooted in a deep sense of humanity. I wanted to paint a critical portrait of a world and character that's become all too familiar, while also seeing if there was a way to get people to sympathize with the main character. The aim was to satirically examine this kind of behavior and a world that not only enables it to exist, but rewards it, through a lens of heightened absurdity and nonsense that's constantly moving and juxtaposing dark moments with lighter ones.
