True Colours is a film that has been in the bag for a few years now. I wrote it back in 2017 after one of my close friends at university confided in me about his abusive relationship. I was shocked and saddened to hear of the severity that this relationship had on his mental health even how it bled into his future relationships. The post traumatic stress that had accumulated from the years of mental abuse was a specific element that stood out to me. I feel that there are a good amount of stories that illustrate the horrors of domestic abuse, but not too often in light of the male as a victim. Overall, I was very compelled to help tell this story as I believe it illuminates the key nature of male mental health, insofar that it is a topic we tend to bury and cover up with the masculine face of our ego. I hope this film helps but shine a small light on the topic and just maybe connects to others who have endured a similar journey.
