Filmmaker Statement

Through all the ups and downs, music is Dagobert's constant companion. His lyrics may sound naïve, but for me they are an absolutely honest look into his soul. Getting to know his biography has given me a new approach to his music. However, during my research I realised that Dagobert is confusing. Is he like this? Or is he just pretending? Many who don't know him don't buy his story and believe his lyrics his superficial cheesiness. Probably quite unintentionally, he has created an art figure out of himself. A friend said in an interview: "Dagobert is probably one of the last real rock stars. He lives that, he is that. He's such a lovable, absurd person who is so intangible and so special that the music world absolutely needs him." With this film, I want to shed light on Dagobert's life and thus give viewers access to his music.
