Filmmaker Statement

This film is born out of 4 years of conversations, explorations, and friendship with members of the archeological and Native communities alike. This film does not seek to moralize or condemn any individual, but rather to spark conversation around the issue of cultural patrimony and indigenous access to cultural heritage. The film looks to contextualize the archeological process within a history of indigenous land dispossession in California, calling for increased dialogue and reciprocity across anthropology and archeology.
