Filmmaker Statement

Like many filmmakers my main motivation for creating films is so they can one day be screened in a cinema… an experience shared with an audience of strangers in a big dark room. But I'm anxious. Anxious about the impact that covid, new technologies, and changing behaviours are having on the allure of film theatres. Anxious about the future of cinema. So what could I do about it? Maybe the only thing I can… make a film. And so Unreel is it - a short allegorical horror film about the end of cinema as we know it. It is also love letter to cinematic horror - celebrating and subverting tropes of horror cinema over decades.
