I spent two years as a volunteer on board a hospital ship in west Africa. It was a privilege to help tell some of the stories of patients like Amadou. In particular, I was so humbled that he didn't let the adversity of his circumstances define or even hinder him. He continued living with the dignity, purpose, and kindness we all strive for despite the large tumor growing on his face. I actually shot and produced his story back in 2018/2019 and there was a real question if the organization would ever edit and release it. The footage sat on a hard drive for nearly four years until I finally had the opportunity to edit this documentary. It was incredibly cathartic to revisit his story after numerous life changes of my own, and be transported back to that great adventure. All that to say, I've been humbled and inspired by Amadou's grace in the face of adversity and I hope you are too.
