Through the film's visual language and poetic structure, I hope it may instigate more nuanced conversations on the beauty that lives outside of binaries. Cuttlefish, one of the most intelligent invertebrates, can instantaneously change their external coloration and pattern in order to hide from predators and prey, to communicate with one another, and to ward off potential opponents. The metaphor of changing face to survive – and thrive – in a larger environment pervades throughout the film. Cuttlefish celebrates the in-between space.
