Filmmaker Statement

I wrote Eden first and foremost as a lover of the horror genre and was excited to put into production a film with shades of two films that left a profound impression on me and helped me fall in love with cinema, 28 days later & Children of Men. Movies that showed what fantastic worlds filmmakers are able to display on the screen. Even if those worlds are bleak and desolate. While defining the world and the monsters for this film I was deeply affected by the stories of my friends whom work in human rights. I believe that mixing the fantasy of the monsters with the story of a young girl and her sister in danger due to their gender and their bodies will challenge audiences understandings of what is otherwise considered a normal part of life. Eden is a thriller that’s primarily exploring gender in an unusual scenario. Showing the characters not as heroes or villains but rather truer versions of themselves when society has fallen.
