Filmmaker Statement

I wrote this script at a time where I was seriously thinking about my sexuality and how that part of my identity existed in correspondence with every other part of me, especially my family. This script was born from the fantasies and fears of that time. The strongest part of this script is its exposure on the authentic and underrepresented Korean American Queer community, who have been forced to live their lives without the help of representation in media to guide them. This film is a product of queer and intersectional love from across the United States. Even before production began on, we started building a community on TikTok; we amassed over 1.5 million views, ten thousand subscribers, and three hundred thousand likes on our TikTok profile. By targeting content to people interested in queer films, Korean-American experiences, and film production in general, we built a community that bled over into Instagram. The content resonated with viewers.
