Filmmaker Statement

With PleasureDora, we wanted to explore the aching desire we all have to reach our full potential, and whether we give up in the face of obsolescence. We saw this very human feeling as giving heart, humour and pathos to some scary questions we have about the AI revolution. - What does it mean to be human in a world of AI? - If, as a society, we are turning to AI systems to help us process our emotions, will we lose our ability to connect with other people? - What does the robot get out of that transaction? These ideas could be quite heavy but we are always drawn to the humour and absurdity in stories. Humour exposes our flaws, flaws reveal our humanity, and humanity is what all stories about robots are ultimately about.
