I wanted to make Progress because I felt something needed to be said about the state of modern dating. From my experience and the experience of my peers, we all felt that the lack of accountability in the way we treat one another has made modern dating almost unbearable. You’d be hard pressed to find someone that hasn’t been ghosted, but it’s not something we talk about and the effect it can have on someone is huge. I wrote this film wanting it to be greater than the sum of its parts. Something that was deceptively simple, but had something truthful and hopefully moving to say. The honesty and authenticity to Remy and Lex’s friendship was hugely important to me in both the writing and the direction. We all have those friends that hear us out when we’re hurting, but also call us out on our dating bullshit. Progress is for anyone who’s ever been ghosted or is running the dating gauntlet. I hope that we start to treat each other a little better and remember the people behind the devices
