This story evolved from a drive to share my own experiences and to tell a story of gaslighting through the medium of film. I did not want to be beaten by this, I wanted to drive my feelings into creativity and make something good out of a bad. Emily Goode, the writer of this script, is a theatre playwright with a talent for absurdist Kafka-style scripts and it was this quality which attracted me to approach her with my story, and so our collaboration began. The use of an absurdist setting with circus-like happenings and the gaiety of ‘kleinkunst’ are inspired by my work as a cabaret performer. It was within this cabaret setting that I found my own female voice of confidence, albeit through the voice of a singing alter-ego. For over a decade I worked as a cabaret performer in both London, UK and in Europe. My performances explored feminist themes, female empowerment and self-determination within a music comedy and satire setting.
