The story is based on my own experiences. When I was a teenager, there always seemed to a stigma about the idea of girls getting their periods. All the girls around me, including myself, would always create nicknames for the word “period” as we seemed to be embarrassed by the idea of it. The main character “Rui”, however, does not understand the “stigma” around it at first. After she learns how others feel about the idea, she struggles to find a balance between her own beliefs and others. Her insistence and compromise reflect the complexity of most of the girl's attitudes toward period shaming. We are never born with shame, we are taught to be ashamed.
